Nature is the gift of life, and it soothes the anxiety of humans. Henry David Thoreau said, “There are moments when all anxiety and stated toil are becalmed in the infinite leisure and repose of nature.” Thus, if you are looking for a place to help you recharge your soul or find peace for yourself, Mai Chau is such a place!
Located in Hoa Binh province of Northeast Vietnam, Mai Chau is a mountain region that is approximately 135km from Hanoi. The terrain of Mai Chau is highly diverse and fragmented by a system of streams and high mountains. The region can be separated into two main areas based on terrain features: lowland and highland. But it is the attractive point of Mai Chau!
Exploring this area, you will feel more peaceful than ever due to its gorgeous landscapes, ideal natural heritage, and hospitable citizens. It is also an excellent location for recreational tourism, cultural discovery, and social activity organization. In particular, the daily life of the ethnic people will be an unmistakable attraction with any other place. The scenery and culture here are pleasant but equally distinctive!
Numerous activities and surprise things are waiting for you in a Mai Chau tour. Let’s take a trip with Asia Tour Deals!
Tourists experience culture in Mai Chau
You will be interested in the Mai Chau trip if you are a nature lover and want to be completely relaxed because Mai Chau has a tranquil valley with huge rice fields, ethnic minority villages, and a few small waterfalls, and the activities here will be associated with trees, grass, flowers, and people.
If you wonder where to stay in Mai Chau, let’s book a homestay! The most famous and largest homestay is in Poom Coong and Lac. It is a stilted homestay of local ethnic minorities and gives you more chances to learn about people and local culture by walking or cycling around. Mai Chau homestays have now upgraded their accommodations to provide more modern amenities and comfy mattresses with private bathrooms.
Explore Mai Chau by bicycle
These small-scale accommodations are less modern, but they offer a unique experience when compared to hotels. In the evening, you can enjoy the traditional beverages, songs, and dances of Thai ethnicity. Then, the peaceful morning starts with roosters crowing, birdsong, and farmers working sounds that will definitely soothe your soul!
When you settle your stay, let’s start your journey to explore majestic places in Mai Chau! Pu Luong Nature Reserve is the first place we want to mention. There is not only a must-see in Mai Chau but also one of Vietnam's top attractions, with gorgeous rice terraces surrounded by water wheels made of bamboo in this abundant environment.
There are ethnic minority communities where you may witness how they live, and trekking is the greatest method to discover this area of villages and paddy fields. In addition, do not forget to come to the breathtaking Thung Khe Pass!
Thung Khe Pass is stunning, but it is also quite dangerous due to the sheer cliffs, rocks on the slopes, and numerous turns. It is also known as the White Rock route because limestone tumbled down when the mountain route was built, resulting in a completely white section of the mountain pass.
It does not end here, when you can make a journey of discovery to Go Lao Waterfall, climbing and exploring the caves. The 20-meter-high waterfall will surprise you with its fierce water pouring down from above. Climbing is definitely suited for adventure because it demands physical strength and a strong spirit to climb to the top of the mountain.
The experience is worth living when you are able to enjoy the panoramic view of Mai Chau! Mo Luong and Hang Chieu caves, with their unique structure and special legend behind them, will steal your attention!

To experience the best holiday in Mai Chau, you should consider carefully avoiding the bad effects of the Mai Chau weather.
Mai Chau has a tropical high mountain climate with minimal humidity due to its geographical factors, so it has two distinct seasons: the Rainy season and the dry season.
From May to October, the rainy season with a hot and humid temperature is accompanied by rushing winds and storms, so please choose the travel time carefully! At this time of year, the typical temperature is around 30 degrees Celsius.
