After breakfast, depart to visit the vibrant Thong Khan Kham market. Vientiane has many markets, and this one is a great place to see what locals buy every day, from fresh foods to everyday items like household goods and jewelry, one of the most authentic places to visit in Vientiane. You will also notice dried red chilies, commonly used in Lao cuisine, especially for seasoning and marinating meat and fish. Continue to the impressive Patuxay Monument, often compared to a triumphal arch, then visit the well-known That Luang Stupa.

Continue exploring Vientiane with Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple still standing in the city, famous for its beautiful corridors, wall paintings, and countless Buddha images, an enriching cultural stop within a well-balanced Laos Holiday Package in 8 days. Next, visit Haw Prakeo, the former royal temple of the Lao monarchy, once home to the Emerald Buddha statue.

In the afternoon, visit Wat Si Muang, a temple many locals believe is known for its spiritual power. Then drive to Buddha Park (about 45 minutes). On the way, stop for photos at the Friendship Bridge, built with support from the Australian government in 1994, linking Laos and Thailand. Arrive at Buddha Park, also called Xieng Khuan, and enjoy a walk among more than 200 Buddhist and Hindu statues. The concrete sculptures are unusual but fascinating, set in calm, green surroundings by the Mekong River, an experience often highlighted in curated Laos Tour Packages.

Return to Vientiane city center. The rest of the day is free to wander through the relaxed colonial streets, or sit at a café terrace and watch the river life while the sun sets over the Mekong, an experience typical of classic Vientiane Tours.

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the station for a daytime train to Luang Prabang. The journey takes just under two hours, fitting smoothly into a thoughtfully planned Laos Holiday Package in 8 days.

On arrival, meet our guide and driver, then head straight out to Kuang Si Waterfall, the largest waterfall in the Luang Prabang area. It cascades over three levels before dropping around 50 meters into striking blue pools and flowing onward through the forest. Take an easy walk on the nature trail, enjoy a swim in the cool turquoise pools, and stop by the bear rescue and conservation center.

On the way back to Luang Prabang, we’ll make a short stop at Ban Na Uang, a Hmong resettlement village, where you can meet Hmong families who originally lived in the highlands.

Back in town, climb the 329 steps up Phousi Hill for sweeping views over the city and the Mekong River.

Early in the morning, witness one of Luang Prabang’s most meaningful traditions: the alms-giving ceremony. As dawn breaks, lines of saffron-robed monks quietly leave their temples and walk barefoot through the streets, receiving offerings from local residents, one of the most memorable cultural moments in many Luang Prabang Tours. It’s calm, respectful, and a beautiful glimpse into the spiritual side of life in Laos.

Return to your hotel for breakfast, then visit the National Museum at the former Royal Palace, home to a valuable collection that reflects Lao heritage from the early kings through the last royal era. Continue to the Morning Market, where you’ll see all kinds of local produce and ingredients used in Lao cooking. Your city tour then continues with the notable stupa of Wat Visoun, followed by Wat Aham and Wat Mai, key places to visit in Luang Prabang for first-time visitors.

In the afternoon, visit Wat Sene, one of the oldest temples in the city, and the stunning Wat Xieng Thong, famous for its low-sweeping roofs and classic Luang Prabang temple design. Later, climb up to Phousi Mount to explore the sacred golden stupa and enjoy a lovely sunset overlooking the town and the Mekong River. After that, browse the Street Night Bazaar, where local artisans and hill-tribe communities sell handmade textiles and crafts.

Breakfast at the hotel.

Starting from 09:00 AM, travel out of Luang Prabang to Ban Lae Sivilay village, a gentle shift from classic sightseeing into immersive Laos Nature Tours. You’ll be warmly welcomed by a Lao family who will show you around the village and share what daily farm life looks like here. After that, you’ll visit a Hmong family who will invite you into their home and introduce you to Pao Ken, their traditional music. Lunch will be shared with your hosts. In the afternoon, head to the family’s plantations (oranges, bananas, or papaya, depending on the season), then enjoy a short cruise on the Nam Xeuang River to take in the peaceful scenery. Along the way, stop by the riverbank to learn how locals keep the old tradition of gold panning alive, an authentic highlight that adds depth and balance to the overall Laos Holiday Package in 8 days.

Later in the day, continue by car to Nong Khiaw, a quiet riverside village on the Nam Ou River, often highlighted among the most scenic places to visit in Nong Khiaw. The place has a special, slightly mysterious charm, with dramatic river views, thick jungle, towering karst mountains, and steep slopes all around.

Take some time to explore nearby areas and, if it’s a weekday, you may also visit a local school to see the children in class, an experience often included in slow-paced Nong Khiaw Tours. Then start the day’s journey by hopping on a local longtail boat to Ban Hat Sa Pheuy village.

On arrival, enjoy a walk to discover Ban Sop Chem, home of the Thai Deang tribe, set in a stunning natural landscape. This small village is popular with trekkers but still feels very untouched. You’ll spend time in a traditional house here. The village was also part of an “All Asia Travel Assistance Project” that helped build a new school. Local families mainly live from small-scale farming, and many are also experienced hunters and fishermen. Continue by boat to Ban Sopkong, a small village of a little over 400 residents, most of them from the Khmu ethnic group. After that, cruise along the Nam Ou River and enjoy the beautiful sunset back over Nong Khiaw, one of the most rewarding moments of this soft Laos Adventure.

On the return to Luang Prabang, stop at Ban Xieng Mene, located right across the river from the old town. Super worth it
Leila Morgan,
Canada

Did this as a couple trip and it hit the right spots. Vientiane was a soft start, then Luang Prabang had that cozy temple and café feel. Kuang Si pools were so pretty we didn’t wanna leave. Nong Khiaw was quiet and kind of magical, especially the sunset on the river. Overall, the 8-day route felt super worth it.

Nature and culture, done right
Mateo Silva,
Brazil

I went solo and it still felt comfortable. The guide was friendly and easy to talk to Kuang Si was the big highlight, and the bear center was meaningful. Nong Khiaw was quiet, great for photos and relaxing. Ending back in Luang Prabang with Pak Ou caves was a nice finish.

Best balance tour
Noor Hassan,
Malaysia

My sister and I did the 3D2N Luang Prabang and Nong Khiaw stretch in this itinerary and loved it. Night market, Phousi sunset, then straight into river and mountain views, so good. Pak Ou caves were impressive, so many Buddha statues. Also liked the stop to see rice alcohol being made. Everything felt well-timed.

Good trip, no stress
Benji Carter,
Australia

Did this with two friends and it was easy from start to finish. The train from Vientiane to Luang Prabang saved us from a long drive. Temples were cool, but the best part was river time in Nong Khiaw. We just sat there like wow, this place is beautiful. Perfect if you want a laid-back trip.

Worth every day
Sofia Petrova,
Bulgaria

Went with my husband and we loved the mix of culture and nature. Phousi Hill views in Luang Prabang were so nice, especially at sunset. Kuang Si day was perfect, swim, walk, chill, repeat. The village visit with farming and music was sweet and felt genuine. Nong Khiaw was peaceful and we slept so well.

Laos made simple
Thabo Mokoena,
South Africa

I’m picky with tours but this one was smooth. Vientiane market stop was fun, lots of snacks and random stuff. Buddha Park was strange in a cool way, lots of statues. Nong Khiaw was the surprise hit, the landscape is next level. Pak Ou caves were a great way to end.

Chill vibes, cool temples
Hannah O’Connor,
Ireland

Travelled with my boyfriend and we loved how calm Laos feels. Luang Prabang temples are gorgeous, especially early in the morning. The alms ceremony was beautiful, just keep quiet and be respectful. Kuang Si was busy but still totally worth it. Private driver saved us a lot of effort.

Nong Khiaw sunset hit hard
Luca Bianchi,
Italy

I did the 2D1N part in Nong Khiaw during this itinerary and it was my top memory. The Nam Ou river cruise at sunset was unreal. Villages felt simple and honest, not touristy. Coming back to Luang Prabang after that felt relaxing. Great mix with the earlier city days.

Family trip that worked
Priya Nair,
India

Went with my family and it worked for everyone. My mom loved the Royal Palace Museum and temples. My dad enjoyed the markets and local food vibes. I loved Kuang Si swimming and the calm café time in Luang Prabang. Nong Khiaw was quiet, which we really needed.

City to nature done right
Keisuke Tanaka,

I like tours that run on time and this one did. Vientiane city tour was simple but interesting, That Luang and Patuxay were worth it. Luang Prabang temples were stunning, Wat Xieng Thong is a must. Nong Khiaw scenery was wild, mountains everywhere. Guide and driver were always punctual.

Did this with my best friend and we had so much fun. The train to Luang Prabang was quick and easy. Kuang Si was beautiful, and the swim was super refreshing. Night market shopping was a danger to my wallet lol. Nong Khiaw was calm and great for a break.

Slow days, big views
Ahmed Al-Farouq,
UAE

Went with my wife and the pace was perfect, not rushed. The early morning alms ceremony in Luang Prabang was quiet and special. Boat time near Nong Khiaw was my favorite, especially at sunset. The small village stops felt real, not fake. Kuang Si was the cherry on top.

Smooth Laos journey
Inés Romero,
Spain

I traveled with my parents and they enjoyed it a lot. The guide explained things clearly, not too much talking, just enough. Pak Ou caves were a cool stop with tons of Buddha statues. Vientiane was a gentle start before going north. The 8-day plan felt well organized.

Easy trip for two

Went with my girlfriend, and it was a really nice couple trip. Luang Prabang felt calm and kind of romantic, especially the night market and Phousi sunset. Kuang Si waterfall day was the best, we swam a lot. Nong Khiaw was quiet and pretty, perfect to relax. Private driver made everything simple.

Laos, but make it easy
Maya Klein,

Did this 8-day Vientiane to Luang Prabang to Nong Khiaw route and it felt super balanced. Vientiane was chill, markets were fun, and Patuxay looked great. Kuang Si was the wow moment, the water is crazy blue. Nong Khiaw sunsets on the river were just amazing. Would do it again.
