Located at a new location in Tay Mo and Dai Mo wards, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi, this museum brings a completely new and modern look.

With a large area of 386,600m2, the museum is not only a place to preserve more than 150,000 valuable historical artifacts, including 4 national treasures but also a unique interactive and experiential space about the history of the heroic Vietnam People's Army's struggle for national independence.

Indoor Display

Stepping inside, visitors will admire the museum's outstanding modern architecture, including 4 floors above ground and 1 ground floor, with a total floor area of up to 64,640m2. The main hall of the museum makes a strong impression with the "Silver Swallow" MiG-21 with serial number 4324 suspended in the air. This aircraft once participated in combat and shot down 14 American aircraft during Vietnam's resistance war against the US to save the country.

The exhibition space inside is divided into 6 main themes, corresponding to important historical periods of the country.

  • Topic 1: The early days of building and defending the country.
  • Topic 2: Protecting Independence from 939 - 1858.
  • Topic 3: Fighting against French colonialism, gaining national independence from 1858 - 1945.
  • Topic 4: Resistance against French colonialism from 1945 - 1954.
  • Topic 5: Resistance against the US from 1954 - 1975.
  • Topic 6: Building and defending the country from 1976 to the present.

Each topic is arranged scientifically and logically, harmoniously combining artifacts, images, documents, and modern projection technology. Visitors will experience 3D mapping technology, information lookup screens, photo media, automatic audioguide explanations, and QR codes to look up information about artifacts, images, and more than 60 video clips introducing campaigns, battles, and historical figures.

In particular, in the exhibition space themed 4, visitors will be able to admire vivid 1:1 scale models of scenes, recreating the space of Hanoi streets during the 60-day and night battle to protect the capital Hanoi.

Outdoor Display

Outside the museum building, visitors will explore the outdoor exhibition area, including weapons and equipment used by the Vietnamese Army and people in the resistance wars against France and the US and in the process of building and defending the country.

  • On the left side of the museum are displayed typical weapons and equipment of our army and people, such as 85mm cannon; 57mm anti-aircraft cannon; PT67 tank number 555; MiG 17 aircraft number 2047; SU22 aircraft, etc.
  • On the right side of the museum, weapons and equipment used by the French and American armies during the war of aggression against Vietnam are displayed, such as M-107 self-propelled artillery, A37, F5E, CH47, C130 aircraft, and dozens of types of bombs, etc.
  • In addition, in the space on both sides of the building, visitors will admire the symbol of the desire for peace with tree branches, green shoots, and doves flying up from the plane wreck, showing that Vietnam desires Peace and understands the value of Peace with countries around the world.
