Phnom Penh, the lively capital of Cambodia, is a place where history, culture, and modern life come together. Located at the meeting point of the Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Bassac Rivers, it’s a popular stop on many Cambodia Itineraries.
The city’s main attractions include the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, where traditional Khmer design and religious art are on full display. Just nearby, the National Museum displays old sculptures and artifacts that tell the story of Cambodia’s rich cultural background. Phnom Penh also gives visitors a chance to understand its more difficult history.
If you're booking Cambodia Tour Packages, visiting the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21) and the Killing Fields at Choeung Ek can be very moving. These sites are somber reminders of the Khmer Rouge era and are important places for reflection.
Despite its troubled past, Phnom Penh is full of energy. Busy markets like the Russian Market and Central Market offer authentic shopping experiences, and a relaxing sunset cruise on the river gives you a peaceful view of the city’s softer, quieter side.
With tours from Asia Tour Deals, exploring Phnom Penh becomes a meaningful adventure through Cambodia’s royal history, tough times, and lively everyday scenes. It’s a place that teaches, touches, and inspires – a must-see for anyone exploring the Kingdom.
When you arrive at the airport, our local representative will meet you and transfer you to the hotel. After a quick rest, you'll start your exploration with a visit to the stunning and bright Khmer-style Royal Palace Complex, which was built in 1866 by the ancestors of King Norodom.
Not far from there is the Silver Pagoda, also known as the Emerald Buddha Temple, home to numerous Buddha statues decorated with gold, diamonds, gemstones, and silver.
Next, we'll stop at the Independence Monument, a symbol of Cambodia's independence, and then head to the National Museum. This beautiful building displays Khmer architecture and houses over 5,000 pieces of art made from bronze, wood, gold, silver, copper, and sandstone.
We will also pass through the riverfront park where four rivers meet at a junction, including the mystical Mekong River. You can walk up to Phnom Daun Penh, a sacred hill that also lends its name to a local pagoda and the current capital.
To finish the day, we’ll visit the Central Market, a large domed structure built in 1937, featuring four arms leading into vast halls filled with countless stalls. The design was created by French architect Louis Chauchon.
Dinner is at a local restaurant—costs are on your own.

This morning, you'll visit the Choeung Ek memorial, where between 1975 and 1978, about 17,000 men, women, children, and infants were detained, tortured, and transported to S-21 for extermination.
Afterwards, we’ll explore Tuol Sleng Prison, now known as the Genocide Museum, which was the secret core of the Khmer Rouge regime. It’s also called S-21, or Security Office 21, where prisoners, primarily those seen as anti-Angkor, were interrogated and executed.
After reflecting on Cambodia’s difficult history, enjoy some free time for lunch (own expense), then take a stroll through the Russian Market, a lively place full of local vendors and shops.
Finally, we’ll end the day with a relaxing cruise to watch the sunset over the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers at the Four Arms junction, where these two great rivers meet and then split apart.
Dinner will be at a local restaurant—yet again, on your own expense.
