I’m that guy who plans trips around what i’m gonna eat, so when i saw heritage line jayavarman from Sai Gon to Siem Reap had these optional culinary excursions, i was sold. didn’t even think twice. i mean, yeah, the mekong river cruise part sounded great villages, temples, landscapes, cooking with locals. First stop i joined a family in cambodia to make “nom kruak,” these little rice cakes cooked in clay molds. we laughed a lot coz my first ones came out… let’s just say “abstract shapes.” in vietnam, i learned to make jackfruit leaf cakes from scratch — even picking the leaves from the garden. the granny in the house made the coconut sauce, and i swear it was the best thing i tasted all trip.
I booked this Mekong River cruise Heritage Line Jayavarman kinda last minute. i was drowning in deadlines back home, felt like my brain was just tabs on tabs on tabs. thought maybe a week on heritage line jayavarman would switch me off. spoiler: it did, big time. From day 1, you step on board and everything slows down. no rush, no emails, just the river sliding by. mornings were my fave on the deck while mist still hugged the water, then fresh coffee and tropical fruit for breakfast. afternoons i’d just sit on my balcony, watching villages drift past like movie scenes.
honestly booked this 3-day Mekong River cruise with Heritage Line Jayavarman coz my mate wouldn’t stop talking about it. thought “ok fine, quick break” but wow… i didn’t expect it to feel like stepping into a diff world. From Saigon to Phnom Penh, every stop was like a mini surprise Cai Be with its coconut candy (i took way too many free samples), tiny islands where ppl still weave mats by hand, and Gieng Island’s incense workshop (smelled amazing). nights on board were my fav tho… sipping wine on the sundeck while the river turned gold at sunset. 3 days went by fast but it felt like i’d been away for weeks. if you want a taste of both Vietnam & Cambodia without rushing airports, this is it.
I picked the 4-day trip coz i was short on vacay time but still wanted something more than a city break. heritage line jayavarman was perfect comfy cabin, balcony with river views (yes, i did the whole “morning coffee in a robe” thing). Each day had just enough exploring silk weaving village, ox cart rides, fruit gardens but also lots of downtime to just chill on board. loved the cooking demo on jackfruit leaf cakes. they’d joke with us, teach some vietnamese phrases, even shared local music in the evenings. By the time we hit saigon, i felt like i’d seen the real mekong delta, not just the touristy bits.
I planned to just fly from Vietnam to Cambodia, but Asia Tour Deals suggested, “why not take the Mekong river cruise instead?” … best decision ever. 7 days, no rushing, no airport hassle just drifting along the Mekong, stopping at villages, temples, and little islands you’d never find on your own. Loved the cultural bits meeting monks in Angkor Ban, seeing silk weaving up close, and listening to Mr. Sum Rithy’s life story was unforgettable. evenings on the jayavarman were pure magic… sunsets, BBQbbq dinners, apsara dance under the stars. Big thanks to Asia Tour Deals for making this happen - Robert nailed it.

Emma Lee,
United KingdomWas gonna just fly between cambodia & vietnam, coz thought it’s faster, get there, see the cities, done. but then randomly stumbled across this mekong river cruise thing online, thought “hmm… why not?” ended up booking last minute. best travel decision i’ve made in ages. 7 days on the water with Heritage Line Jayavarman, no stress at all the crew took care of literally everything. wake up, do tai chi on deck, eat amazing breakfast, then go explore little villages, floating markets, temples i never knew existed. in cambodia we met locals in small river towns, learned about pottery, silk weaving… then in vietnam, it’s mango farms, fruit gardens, people making rice paper & coconut candy right in front of you. The coolest part was how the ship just moves slowly down the river, and you watch life go by kids waving from the shore, fishermen throwing nets, monks walking in saffron robes. it’s not just sightseeing, it’s like… sinking into the culture. no flights, no packing/unpacking every day. just 7 days of pure, calm travel through two countries, following the mekong like it’s telling you its own story. would 100% do it again!!!!!
