Well, what is Singapore? A city, a country or an island? It is all of that!
Then where its city centre is?
The city centre begins at the Marina Bay, the place where the Singapore River falls into South China Sea. The most expensive restaurants, skyscrapers and 5* hotels are situated here.
- Marina Bay Sands, Swisotel the Stamford; Marina Mandarin; Mandarin Oriental; Fairmont; Pan Pacific and other.
Further, the Singapore River goes through the business centre and the famous in Singapore place called Clarke Quay. If you ever heard about this river, you would know that on one bank there are a lot of cosy restaurants and on the other bank there are skyscrapers, which are very picturesque and creates a beautiful contrast in city scenery. In this area you will find 3-4* hotels such as:
- Peninsula Excelsior, Swissotel Merchant Court, Grand Park City Hall, Park Hotel Clarke Quay, Studio M, Robertson Quay, Fragrance Riverside and others.
The city centre does not end here, it continues to the well known Orchard Street. It is famous for great shopping in big malls and exclusive boutiques where you will find the world famous brands of clothes and electronics, restaurants and cafes. The best time to stay in this area would be from May till July when there are major sales in majority of Singapore shops.
The most popular 3* and 4* hotel in this area are:
St.Regis, Four Seasons, Mandarin Orchard, Shangri-la, Hyatt, Marriott, Orchard Parade Hotel, Elizabeth Hotel, Grand Park Orchard, Traders and others.
Staying in this area would be more expensive but there are plenty of hotels not far away from the centre which cost less. Reaching the city centre is never a problem in Singapore so do not worry wherever you choose to stay. We would advise you the hotels which are situated far from the main streets but close enough to the centre, such as V Hotel Lavender, Oasia Hotel, Landmark Village Hotel, Bayview, Somerset, Albert Court Village, Parc Sovereign, also some not expensive chain hotel as Fragrance and many others.
For those of you who would like to enjoy a beach vacation the best choice would be staying at the Sentosa island. There you will find lots of attractions, beach parties, bars and parks. There are hotels which will suit all tastes: Capella, Sentosa Resort and SPA, Rasa Sentosa (by Shangri-la), Siloso beach and other.
